Jewellery for everyone

triumph-banglesmod-ringsGossip trotted across the globe to speak with independent New York-based accessories line PONO.

The brand, which has been going steadily for the past five years, has caught the attention of the likes of Julianne Moore, Paris Hilton, Beyonce, Hilary Swank, and Mischa Barton.
Nick Zurko from PONO said: ‘When PONO began, our goal was to make accessories for all women, regardless of age, size, or income. We are a high-end jewellery company, but one that aims to stay grounded on planet Earth. Thus, PONO items vary drastically between a $20 Masaai beaded bracelet, with 20% of the profits going to young African women in need and, well, stuff that would be far out of my price range (if I was a woman, that is!’

PONO accessories call upon fashion’s past, while creating their own story through the individuality inherent in the materials they use. Cow horn, for example which would otherwise be discarded, and resin, are the two primary materials used in their factories in Italy.

With all the positivity being directed in PONO’s way, they have now decided to turn their good fortune into even more positivity by initiating the “Give Love, Practice Peace” campaign.  The idea is simple: they pick a charity they admire, design a line of bangles to represent their cause, and then donate a percentage of the sales to the group.  So far they have developed three collections to benefit the following groups: The Climate Project, Give a Girl a Chance, and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
