The saying goes ‘one persons rubbish is another persons treasure’ and this is certainly the case for the recycled jewellery collections available from Hannah Zakari online.
The collections from designers Eclectic Shock, Kirsty Kirkpatrick and Pequitobun are all created from hand-picked vintage pieces, pulled apart and reinvented as new totally unique fabulous treasures. The reborn jewellery is so individual and quirky that the wearer is certain to ignite jealous glances.
All of the pieces from these designers show a love for quality and uniqueness only obtainable by using genuine vintage pieces. The itsy bits used to create these quirky masterpieces come from antiques fairs and car-boot sales, end-of-lines and vintage finds. Kirsty Kirkpatrick says she has even used wood from: ‘desk draws, wine boxes, chairs and vegetable crates binned out in the street’. The designs are very tricky to make. According to Louise from Eclectic Shock, the tricky part is: ‘getting the combinations just right’. Louise recycles the jewellery by taking the backs of pieces, adding fastenings and adapting them. Perhaps the most crucial element to the designs is having enough vintage items, to choose the perfect combination.
Sherry from Pequitobun says that: ‘combining the ethos of recycling with the sustainability of quality durable
materials, wrapped in thoughtful, detailed and always distinctive design’ is central to her work. This concept of sustainability and recycling is key to all of these designers, although Louise from Eclectic Shock simply loves the treasure hunting involved. And you can see from her pieces, that the pocket-watches and zebra were not easy finds.
The featured collections range from around £10 to £100 from Hannah Zakari.
