Finding inspiration in all the old, much loved fairytales is obvious when you look at jewellery designer Hoolala’s latest collection on independent accessories boutique Hannah Zakari
Charm bracelets, necklaces and earrings all feature our favourite characters from Alice in Wonderland, Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, Tom Thumb and even Mr Darcy from Pride and Prejudice makes an appearance. Ranging from £18 to £42, these handmade gems have been bought by lots of famous authors, illustrators, artists and musicians, as well as Wayne Hemmingway from Red or Dead, and are now available online.
Sam, the designer behind the brand said: ‘I love books and a lot of my themes and ideas come from my childhood memories. I would spend summer holidays sleeping in my tree house or my tiny calico tent – living outdoors all summer. I also had a little rowing boat I would take up and down the canal, that ran alongside our house. I would pack a picnic and a pile of old books, and row off down to one of the bridges, where I would moor the boat and just lie in the shade reading. My favourites were the folk tales where everyone got chopped up with an axe. The end.’
Every piece Sam creates has personal significance to her and she never knows what she’s going to be inspired by, adding: ‘It all depends on my adventures!’
For her research into the collection, she enjoyed revisiting all of her favourite fairytales again. And she still picks up Grimm’s Fairy Tales and folk tales from Europe every now and again to read.
Finding great comfort in reading folk tales and having an incredible imagination, has made for the perfect combination to create this wonderful collection of fairytale inspired jewellery.
